The Women’s Fellowship enjoyed a presentation from Joan Weigle on Wednesday, June 1, about her recent educational tour of Japan.
Joan took the trip in April with a group from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. After landing in Hong Kong, she met up with the group and traveled by boat to Okinawa. Following that, they moved on to the Japan mainland.
For Joan, the apex of the tour was learning about the elaborate tea rituals.
“The guide who worked with us was in the third year of a four-year training course in how to present the tea ceremony,” she said. “We were enchanted.”
After admiring the many artifacts and memorabilia Joan brought for the presentation, the group retired to the Sanctuary to view photos and hear more about Japanese life.
The morning concluded, of course, with tea.
Thank you to Winston Barrows for these photos of the morning.
